New data released in the UCL Smoking Toolkit Study found that compared to 2019 the proportion of smokers in England making a quit attempt has increased from 29 per cent to 35 per cent. The success rate for quit attempts has risen from 14 per cent to 23 per cent. Smoking prevalence among adults is at a record low of 13.9 per cent.

Stoptober is reminding those looking to quit this October that they are not alone, and will be joining the one million people in the UK who quit smoking during the coronavirus lockdown, according to calculations by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), and more than two million smokers have made a quit attempt with Stoptober since the campaign launched. Public Health England has also seen the power in community and has rallied together leading UK health charities and organisations to help encourage smokers in England to give quitting a go this Stoptober.
