ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Borough Council is recommending that residents avoid having bonfires during the lockdown period.
In these times where we’re encouraging everyone to follow the Government’s advice to stay at home, it is more important than ever for residents to be considerate and supportive of their neighbours.
ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Borough Council has received lots of complaints and comments over the past few weeks about the number of bonfires in the borough.
Bonfires can affect people with respiratory conditions such as asthma or bronchitis or symptoms of the coronavirus. Bonfire smoke will aggravate these symptoms.
We kindly ask all residents to refrain from having bonfires during this lockdown period. It is an important time to take care of each other and to respect what our neighbours require to maintain their health. Please use your GREENbin, compost or keep your garden waste safe until the restrictions are lifted.
Councillor Gurinder Jhans
Cabinet member for Environmental Services and Sustainability

If you are affected by bonfire smoke, please talk to your neighbours first, while maintaining social distance of two metres, as they may not be aware of the impact on your health.
If this informal action is unsuccessful, please contact the council. The council can issue Fixed Penalty Notices of £100 in situations where people continue to have bonfires despite being asked to stop.
If you do require assistance, please contact the Nuisance and Anti-Social Behaviour Team on 01293 438438 or email asb@crawley.gov.uk
